OUR MARES

Simply saying the phrase “The Mares of Al Rayyan” conjures up a beautiful mental image of refined Egyptian mares in a particular style. The foundation mares of Al Rayyan were Ansata Sharifa, G Shafaria, Ansata Samaria, Ansata Selket, Ansata Ken Ranya, Ansata Nefer Isis, Ansata Majesta, Maida Bint Bint Mohssen, Ameena, Aisha, Bint Amal, Bint Mesoudah M HP, Toya El Zahraa, Rababa and Classic Farida. Most recently the mare barn was joined by Kahraman Al Shaqab who strengthens the Bint Bukra line.

The queen of the early breeding program RN Farida, who sadly passed away this winter, also takes her rightful place as a foundation line for the farm.

The Dahmah Shawaniah strain is the most well represented at the farm, complemented by mares from the Obeyah Om Grees strain through Hanan, the Saqlawia Jidrania strain through Moniet El Nefous and the Inshass mare Rayana, plus a small Hadba Enzahieh family. This balance has created a very recognisable marque of classic Egyptian breeding that has served as foundation for many of the other dedicated breeders of the Middle East.

All of the mares mentioned above have descendants still in the program at Al Rayyan, alongside those from some of the most famous early Al Rayyan mares: RN Farida, RN Sultana and Dana Al Rayyan. At the farm are seven daughters of the Al Rayyan figurehead stallion Ashhal Al Rayyan, as well as ten daughters of Al Adeed Al Shaqab. This precious heritage is being preserved by the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani and his son HE Sheikh Joann Bin Hamad Al Thani.
